The pump module for the diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) is retained to the DEF tank by a threaded retaining ring. When service is required for the DEF pump module, the retaining ring must be removed, then re-torqued to ensure the module seals to the tank. J-38879-B is an adjustable spanner with a square drive, and is tightened onto the outer ribs of the pump module retaining ring. A breaker bar or torque wrench is used to remove or install the pump module retaining ring. Unapproved methods will damage the DEF pump module.
