SAE Individual

SAE individual tools are a type of precision measuring tool used to measure the diameter of a hole or shaft. They are typically made of hardened steel and have a 60-degree included angle between the anvil and the blade. The blade is graduated in either inches or millimeters, and the anvil is typically flat or crowned. SAE individual tools are available in a variety of sizes, with the most common being 1/16-inch, 1/8-inch, 3/16-inch, 1/4-inch, and 5/16-inch.

SAE individual tools are used by automotive mechanics to measure the size of holes and shafts in order to determine the correct size of a bearing or other part. They are also used to measure the clearance between two parts, such as a bearing and a crankshaft.

Types of SAE Individual Tools

There are two main types of SAE individual tools: inside calipers and outside calipers. Inside calipers are used to measure the inside diameter of a hole, while outside calipers are used to measure the outside diameter of a shaft.

Inside calipers typically have a range of 0-1 inch, while outside calipers typically have a range of 0-6 inches. Both types of calipers have a vernier scale that allows for more precise measurements.

SAE individual tools are an essential part of any automotive mechanic's toolkit. They are accurate, easy to use, and affordable.
